YARNS: Yet Another Roleplaying Narrative System
YARNS: Yet Another Roleplaying Narrative System
A narrative tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) for any genre
Printable and usable in the browser, too. Made in Decker. Submitted for Millie's Hybrid Decker Zine Jam.
The HTML is a browsable zine that can be printed and made into an 8 page booklet, which includes of all of the rules and a blank character sheet. It's an all-in-one except for optional combat rules and example skill sets, as a separate PDF.
To make the printable version, use the "Save PDF" or "Save GIF" buttons, and print the output of that. It takes moment for the PDF. Or, alternatively, the printable PDF 8 page rule booklet is in the downloads, below.
Below you can find downloads for:
1. example skill sets and optional combat rules PDF. you'll probably need this to get started. or at least have an example of what the skills look like in the games that I have used YARNS for. that way you can design your own skill sets for your stories.
2. errata, notes, design & theory of YARNS PDF - this will explain a lot of things that might be too ambiguous in the 'zine version, since it is so space limited. download this if something is confusing.
3. the complete 8 page rules booklet, pre-saved as a PDF - YARNS, the game, printable as a zine. the same thing you'd get from pressing the "save PDF" button in the digital version, from above. to see how to fold it into a book, see: https://www.slv.vic.gov.au/learn/teacher-resources/make-your-own-zine

Just a random thing:
Why is Manipulate and Sleuth the same skill?
Do you know the old TV show Columbo? He’s a master homicide detective because he can: (1) get into people’s heads, (2) understand them to manipulate them, but (3) also figure how they commited the murder because he’s inside their head. Empathy & Read Intent are in-the-moment gut read of someone, where Manipulate & Sleuth are calculated. Columbo is good at both in YARNS.
